Four-poster bed

The Four-Poster Bed

The « A Possen » Museum holds in its collections beautiful furniture from the 18th and 19th centuries, illustrating the life of the inhabitants of the Luxembourg Moselle.

The bed presented here is a four-poster bed, whose closure – designed to retain heat and protect against humidity – is achieved with curtains and a fabric canopy. The four-poster bed was the most commonly found bed in rural areas. It is a variation of the alcove bed, formed as a kind of large wooden box.

This oak bed dates from the 18th century. Notice the delicate floral and vegetal decorations that beautifully adorn this piece of furniture!
