Leather knife

Before the advent of large stores, people bought their shoes from the local shoemaker. Leather was the essential material needed to make the shoes.

Once the leather was selected, it was cut into the different parts of the shoe using a sharp leather knife – a flat steel blade with a pointed, sharpened tip. After cutting, the individual pieces were further worked on before the shoe took its final shape.
