Halette

The Halette

The “Halette” is a work headdress worn by women for outdoor tasks, such as in fields, vineyards, and gardens. Made of light-colored fabric, it features a protective ruffle at the back, while the front is stiffened with small wooden slats threaded into the double layer of fabric (12 slats in this model).

The wide edges of the headdress and the neck covering conceal the back of the head, the neck, the cheeks, and the ears, protecting them from the sun. Its use became widespread in the second half of the 19th century, particularly in Luxembourg, Belgium, and Lorraine.
