Insect funnel
The Insect Funnel
Vineyards, fragile in the face of diseases, pests, or weather conditions, require constant vigilance. To protect the vines from certain harmful insects, such as leafrollers, vintners used a clever tool: the insect funnel.
Leafrollers attack the leaves to lay their eggs, causing the leaves to curl into a cigar-like shape.
To prevent the proliferation of these insects and combat their effects, they were collected using the funnel by placing it at the base of the vine in the morning or evening and shaking the vine. The rolled-up leaves were also gathered, often with children helping in this task.
