Guided tour “Washing Laundry as in the Past in Luxembourg’s Moselle Region”
Immerse yourself in the world of our ancestors and discover the secrets of traditional washing and ironing methods through an immersive guided tour.
Long before washing machines and electric irons made everyday life easier, doing the laundry was a demanding and labor-intensive task—shaped by refined techniques and knowledge passed down through generations.
On this journey into the past, you will experience step by step how laundry was done in those days: from the arduous task of fetching water to the use of natural cleaning agents such as ash, and the techniques of beating, scrubbing, and wringing. You will also get to know the typical utensils of that time—such as the wooden beater, the wash boiler, the wringer, or the heavy cast-iron iron.
Through vivid storytelling and authentic demonstrations, you’ll gain insight into the daily life of earlier generations and see how housework has evolved over time. It marked a small revolution that fundamentally changed not only family life, but especially the role of women in the household.
Whether you’re interested in history, forgotten crafts, or a fascinating glimpse into our cultural heritage—this guided tour will take you on a journey to a time when every movement had meaning.
A tasting glass will be offered to visitors.
